I was curious to see if anyone feeds their dragonets live mysid shrimp?? SHould I even put live mysids in my tank? I'm looking to diversify my mandarins feeding habits and am wondering if these are equally enticing as copepods and such? Maybe live baby brine?

Not many people have access to live mysid shrimp so that might be why your question has gone unanswered. I would think that these shrimp would be too large for a mandarin to eat but your other fish will definitely enjoy them. Live baby brine would definitely be a good alternative food for all of your fish, including the mandarin.

We have a local who has been training mandarins to eat frozen and flake using live brine and brine naupulii, but I would think the cost of live mysis would be very cost prohibitive unless you can find it local.

Cool folks, thanks for the responses! I'm trying to figure out how to get him a good variety. With baby brine, will they live in the DT??

So found out that my dragonet eats brine :D

I picked up a "test" batch of live brine from the LFS last night. I took them home, dumped them in a tupperware and crushed up some flake omnivore food for them. Once they were all nice and red (food is red) I threw some in. Took her a few minutes of watching them swim. She watched them intently, one came just close enough and SLURRRRPPPPPPP! Gobbled the brine right up. She got so excited at her new feast that she started this strange dance. She raised her dorsal flag and started fluttering her side fins furiously. After the first I watched her for another 20-30min actively hunting. SOOOOOOOO cool!

Good to hear! You'll want to gut load adult brine shrimp with something other than flakes though. Try soaking them in Selcon and/or cod liver oil next time :)

Definitely :D Thank you!! I'd added some selcon to the water they were in so that they absorbed the good stuff :D

Do you turn off pumps when feeding your mandarin?

I have a mandarin too . . . my other fish gobble the food so quickly the mandarin can't get to it. Do you turn off your pumps and power heads when feeding?

I haven't been. I feed the rest of the tank at the same time. I've been feeding everyone else cyclop-eeze and some omnivore preparation. At the same time I shoot the live brine down to the mandarin with the turley baster. I always feed the mandarin in the same spot so it knows where to get its food when I'm feeding the tank.....

What is the best way to gut load the brine with selcon? I've been soaking flake in selcon and then feeding it to the brine. I've also tried straining the shrimp fromt he water until they are a huge jelly blob and dripping the selcon on the shrimp and letting them soak like that. What is the best way?
