I already have a six line wrasse who is a nice tank mate for my other fish... when I first saw the mystery wrasse, I thought, man they're cool but too expensive... but now I'm starting to really want one. What do you folks think, would it be ok with a sixline, or would they not do well together?

    thanks!

I don't know about the six line and mystery, but I did just add two flame wrasses into my tank with my red velvet wrasse, and let's say it has been a very stressful time. I'm regretting it a little bit - just a little bit, because they are gorgeous!

If your six line is already nice it is probably okay. My red velvet wrasse had a bit of attitude to start with.

Sixline is hit or miss when it comes to temperament. It will also depend on the size of them. Move sixline to the sump and introduce mystery. When mystery wrasse settles, move sixline back to the tank.

is the mystery wrasse more or less docile than the six line usually?

About the myster wrasse, Live Aquaria says: It is an excellent fish for a reef aquarium and passive with most popular reef fish, including other wrasses.

And they also list them as semi-aggressive.

I don't know if I would risk it, the 6 line is a cheap fish that you can buy 5-6 of before you get to the cost of 1 mystery wrasse.

I say this mainly because resident 6 lines can be very mean and pugnacious toward new wrasse additions.

The six will likely whoop some mystery butt. I wouldn't try it.

hrm... ok... will consider this... my lfs can get me a mystery wrasse for $80... which is a lot less than most places offer them for, but I only want to try it if it will get along with the six line...

That's a great price, but I don't know if I would try it.

you have a 120g, you might be able to do it. If you do try it, absolutely 100% put the fish in the tank well after the 6 line has gone to bed for the night, and preferably after the lights have been off for a while.

I normally dont chime in on these threads but my experience mirrors that of the OP. I had a sixline and fell in love with the Mystery wrasse. I got may hand on a beautiful one that was bigger than the sixline. I put him my tank and chaos was the result. The sixline would not give the mystery a seconds rest, to the point that the mystery wedged himself inbetween my magfloat and the corner of the tank for protection.

I knew I had to remove one and it wasnt going to be the mystery. I chased and chased and everytime the sixline would dive into a crevice in a rock, of course at the very bottom of my tank. I then had the pleasure completely removing all of the rock in my tank, put the hiding wrasses rock in a bucket and he finally jumped out. What a pain, but considering the mystery is still my favorite fish it was worth the hassle.
