Hey Everyone- I put a Mystery Wrasse in my display tank yesterday and have not seen him since. Is it normal for this fish to got in to hiding until it gets content in it's new home?

Still have not seen this fish.. I put it in my tank on Sunday and have not seen him since.. Hopefully I didn't waste $80. He could have at least let me watch him swim a bit if that's the case.

True, Mystery Wrasses are notorious for being very skiddish/hiding most of the time. I have one in my 29g Biocube, alone at the moment so he is with out a doubt the alpha in the tank and does not hide at all really. However at our local fish store in their 90g Show tank, theirs hides all the time. if you do not see him within around a week, I would start to get worried if I were you. Hope this helps you.

$80 is cheap for a Mystery Wrasse. The two I've seen were $150 each. I saw one at Exotic Aquatic and he roamed around the tank constantly. I saw one at Big Al's and he liked to hide as best he could as the tank had one piece of fake coral. Initially he hid most of the time. He was there for a couple months so I watched him closely and it just seamed like it depended on wheather he was fussed with that day. That's all I know about them.

My hope is that he is just in hiding. the fact that it was $80 is why I have him or at least think I have him. From what I understand once they come out of hiding they often behave like a six line in that they are all around the rock work looking for food and end up being a pretty active fish. I keep searching the floor to make sure there was not surfing attempt and thankfully nothing is found. I have egg crate on the top to be safe.
