Nac 5.5 cone skimmer

Does anybody have any experience with these ? Can't seem to find a decent review anywhere and someone in my area is selling one. Any input is appreciated.

I had a NAC6 and liked it a lot. Sorry I can't say about the 5.5. Odd I don't see much here on it either.

 

Thanks for the reply! All I can seem to find is a really generic review from online retailers. The nac six must be similar ? So was yours nice and quiet? No issues with it ?

 

I really liked that skimmer. The only reason I got rid of it was because I needed a smaller one to make room for a refugium in my sump. It was quiet and churned.

 

I recently got a NAC-77, and when it had the mesh wheels it was rather loud...but not too horribly bad.. But had 4 of those impellers break in 3 days.. And now have the needle wheels which are MUCH quieter. I'm not sure what pump the 5.5 has, but mine has the dual Atman 2500. I love the skimmer tho! Does great for the price. And I had the same problem as you... It's really hard to find any reviews on any of the Bubble Magus skimmers. But I would recommend them as long as it doesn't come with the mesh wheel impeller.

On the flipside I had the meshwheels in the NAC6.. Only needed to replace one or two in over a year's time. Mine was quiet too - perhaps it varies depending on the model..

I've heard that when they work, they do a really good job of shredding bubbles! Sites that sell the mesh wheel don't have any kind of Garuntee on them because they're known to break easily. My guess was the set I got was made with a bad batch of plastic or something because it seems rather rare to break so many in such little time of any kind of impeller though
