My dream fish that I want in my tank is a naked clownfish. My LFS has one, but it is a personal pet and is not for sale. I have seen them for sale at a few of the livestock sellers on the web (Live Aquaria, Aquatic Connection, etc...) My question is are the naked clownfish uniform? Are they always solid orange with black tipped fins or are some splotchy. If they are pretty uniform, I can buy one online, if not I will need to see before buying making the process harder. Any Help?

if your tank is only 2 weeks old i would hold off until the cycle is through. you will only cause fish undue stress if not kill them all together. You need to wait at least 6 weeks to add any critters IMO

I agree you should wait before adding. looks like you already have quite a load on the Red Sea Max and it's only been a few week. I do appoligize as I know what it's like to ask a question and get every responce back except what you are asking. Please don't take it personally..

To address your question. I'm not sure if they are uniform or not. Hoping someone will chime in for you.

as far as your question of uniformity to the naked clown i have no idea. We have the normal perculas with stripes. im sure our kids would think that nemo lost his stripes if we brought one naked clown home lol. but when u do get one you should make it two they like to have a mate. dont mix clown species they need to be of the same variety or they will kill each other. happy reefing

Some are not very uniform. Some will have a white spot here or there, others a black one, and then some are completely "naked". My LFS has five or six of them still. Personally I like the looks of my Ocellaris clowns more than the naked ones. They just look "wrong" to me for clownfish.

I recommend looking at the fish specifically before buying. Unless you want a little variety in how they look, then you could order them if you are ok with taking a gamble on what yours will look like.

Thank you Jwin. I will hope my LFS or a fish store around me gets some in 5 to 7 weeks, when I plan and was told I could add fish. If my water shows it can support it. I am in no hurry to add livestock. I wanted to wait on adding till tank was set up longer, but LFS guy said starter fish are important to the nitrogen cycle process. Don't worry about me. I'm striving for a no death zone over here, btw where at in TN, jwin/ I'm in west Tennessee.

Do you think they can specify, how I want mine to look? Cause that would be sweet. Also I heard that different species of clowns can get along as long as their temperment is good, usually tank raised. My LFS has a Oscellaris and a Naked and they are the only fish in a 75 + gallon set-up and they by each others side all day.
