Added some pictures of where I am now with this setup.

    Hello everyone,
I was running a 75gallon tank for about a year or so, do to having a new baby coming and other issues I had to take it down and sold most of it off. Now as I'm sure everyone here knows, you cant stay away for long. I would like to start up a small nano. Yes I had one and like a fool, let it get sold. that tank was a 5gallon walmart tank. can anyone direct me with a good small tank. I see jbj has one, so does finnex. I have a 24w pc 50/50 light, but plan on getting one of the Par LED lights. I was also toying with the thought of adding a small fuge, either HOB or plumb in a small fuge. any thoughts or help would be great. I am fine with doing another walmart tank and drilling it to do a fuge also.

I would go with a Bicoube 14g or 29g...just depends on room for it and how much your willing to spend...i honestly like the JBJ's and biocube i have a 14g cube..and its nice...Small, compact, easy maintenance.. I have heared people doing LED's on it..jsut not sure how to do it.

If your going with a nano, i suggest biocubes,JBJ's,aquapods, things like that...good luck..and congrats on the baby.

    Well..they make an 8g biocube?

Because with 5-6g's will be hard to keep stable....you will have a good chunk of time on your hands for one of those becuase of testing, topoff, water changes etc...

But you could find 5g's at petco/petsmart and setup up one from scratch like that if thats want you want...A small PC light or T5HO light would work, I would go with T5HO or even LED's because PC's will generate alot more heat and quickly heat up your tank...I would get a small sump if possible, that will help with params staying more stable and easier to maintain...small biocube skimmer, or a skimmer made for nanos(i have no clue which ones will be good for that small of atank) And a HOB filter if you dont do a sump.

    Hope this helps.

imo I'd get a standard tank from Petco's $1 per gallon sale. It will be much cheaper than a cube. Also, if it's the amount of work you are afraid of I'd definitely consider that fuge.

oh no, I am not afraid of work. I love working with my tanks. issue from my other tanks was the cost and my wife and I thought the best thing to do with another child coming , was to get rid of the big tank I had. I believe if I go with a 5-10 gallon tank, drill it, add in a small sump and the boostLed light, that I should be able to run a small setup without needed a lot of hardcore maintenance. The light would be more than enough for corals and viewing, the sump with macro will handle filtering. Top offs and water changes should handle the rest. I just want to still have a SW tank and be able to enjoy it without my wife feeling like I am taking away from her and our children to do it.

I'm doing the same thing right now man. I know what ur feeling like. I had a 90g and I just tore it down. I'm setting up a standard 10g with 4t5s.
Cost is gunna be cheaper to just buy everything u want seperate than a biocube price
I'm setting up a aquaclear hob filter and changing it into a fuge. All the cost of mine is getting covered by what I sold from the 90g though.
Good luck and def do the nano. I'm already excited about mine.

in your opinion is the fuge as a HOB the best way to go? I was thinking about drilling the tank I get and do a Durso standpipe or something into a small fuge under the tank. that sound like overkill for a small tank? I do have a question about making a fuge from and old large HOB filter. I have one now, not sure what kind but it is big, How would I slow the flow down in order to let the macro algae do its job?

I think a hang on fuge is good. I didn't want to worry about a sump and overflowing ect... the aquaclear 110 is almost the length of a 10g so its pretty big. Its ment for a 75 to 110g. U can cut of some of the impellar to slow the flow down or u can make baffles in the filter to slow it down. Its worth the peice of mind for me

nice, I think I will do that, it will help with the cost greatly since I already have the filter. plus no plumbing needed either.
