Can I use a nano tank as a fuge? I was also thinking of using a 5g or 10g tank, add a pump, lights, connecting it to a overflow to the tank, it will be a lot cheaper.

    The short answer is yes.

The main benefit of a sump is the increased gas exchange and the bigger, the better. For your 55 gallon, I would recommend a 30 gallon if at all possible!

Well a good rule that was told to me and that I use is the fuge should be around 1/10th the size of the main tank. So the 5 or 10 gal would be fine. You want a very slow water flow into it, you really want to aim for 1 turn an hour.

Look at the tidal swamp areas in nature, high or low flow?

Why would you do that??? You will ruin everything that you would gain from the fuge.

It's your tank, but if it was mine I would not do it.
