As long as you keep your bioload down a skimmerless nano is actually better because it doesn't take out organics that feed your corals. If your bioload is up and you get lazy with water changes it can go downhill quickly though.

I have a Current Fission skimmer and that thing is a piece of junk IMO. I had it for my 12G JBJ cube and it did nothing for it. I'm going to be working on a DIY skimmer for it, making it out of acrylic. I'll be using a Rio800 venturi to drive it. If it works well, I'll post it in the DIY section. :)

I sometimes get lazy with water changes, thus the importance for the skimmer for me. I'd prefer to do WC's once every 2 weeks. I'm going with an ATO (already had one) in chamber 3, and a sapphire aquatics skimmer in chamber 2. hopefully the hype on these skimmers hold up, if not i have egg crate and a light ready to make a refugium out of chamber 2.

froc3 - Thank you! This is what i'd read looking around nano dedicated sites, and it's why i've been trying to go without the skimmer. My tank's coming around again, and i agree that it's bioload issue and just being thoughtless about stocking. I'm going to keep the $30 skimmer in its box, add no more life for a month, and do weekly water changes and just see where that gets me before making any other changes...
