Hi. Had an off the charts pH issue the other day and have performed two 1 gal water changes using RO and Instant Ocean. Finally got the water tested at my LFS. Calcium 560. Nitrates 25-30. kH 130. pH 8.5 Phosphates 125. Ammonia 10 That test was done Friday.
I did add some buffer to try to stabilize at 8.2 with my last water change.
Fish and in verts seem fine. Frog Spawn and Zoas are kind of hanging out and not openning fully. The small blood anemone looks OK.
Had another test today and the params I am told all look OK except the pH is still high. I will get more info on Monday.
    1. What would cause these params to jump?
    2. Suggstions for a test kit?

    What is your SG?
Is 125 right for your phosphates?

Tank was started at Christmas with live rock, live sand and water from a very healthy and existing 300 gal system.
    Salinity is 1.023
Using RO from the LFS for additions and water change make up. I checked pH on the RO and it was slightly acidic.
I will double check on all parameters Monday. I was questioning the ammonia number as well but not sure if any is tolorable or if it needs to be zero - or if the high pH was throwing this reading off. Feeding small amounts every two to three days and it is all gone in a minute or two.
Really did nothing to the tank over the last two weeks and at that time all was OK.

Ammonia should always be 0. unless your going threw a cycle. Phosphates are high. I would ask when the lfs last changed filters on the RO and if they use DI. Or test just the Ro water to see if thats part of the problem. How much are you feeding? How much stock in the tank?

Had a sleeper gobie die but picked him out and the star that did not seem to be doing so good died also. Got them both out but I cannot vouch for all of the star. Not sure if the hermits ate the legs or not. Don't seem to have as much smail activity so not sure it they became hermit lunch boxes.

Thanks t everyone who posted up some ideas.
    Latest test today:
    Nitrates: 10-15
    Phosphates: 0
    kH: no test
    Ammonia: ND
    pH:8.2
    Calcium:500
I see my calcium and Nitrates are still up but I am hoping another water change will bring it in to range. Hoping for balance.
Any thoughts on the Hagen Master test kits? My LFS has them on sales for $90.00
