sounds like you wouldn't need to top-off too much. If your sump is acrylic you might want to drill it and run a float valve (like one from Kent), attach a 1/4 line and connect it to like a 1g container that sit above the sump and gravity feeds the sump...that's what I use on my system but I have a 15g container.

sump is glass but i am not afraid to drill anything..lol..i was going to look into a gerbil style top off like i had on my last tank...i will see what it needs though...so far the SG still hasnt changed, and it has been 4days with no top off..the water level has only gone down about 250ml-400ml...a top off would be nice though...and yeah i have next to no room in the stand for anything too large...i was looking at one of those 1.25 gallon water jugs you can get at walmart...should last a month..LOL

Beautiful tank and a great idea! :D I never would have thought of doing something as brilliant as this. You made nearly everything from scratch? The stand looks like it should be in a designers house. :) If you don't mind me asking, what type of lighting is being used ad how much did you invest in it? Good luck. And remember to take it slow.

honestly dont remember where i got the LEDs, i bought them over two years ago when i started this little project..they are LUXEON K2's...but the rest of the stuff LED wise was bought at LEDSupply (thermal paste, buckpuck, wire, lens holders/lens[they will be here next week though]) screws and tap set was from lowes 4-40 heat sinks are just aluminum "C" channel

i would say it is any harder to keep then a bigger tank...each tank has its virtues and problems..big tanks have more room for error then smaller ones being that if something goes foul it generally doesnt mess things too badly but it could also escalate without you knowing until it is catastrophic too...small tank things can go bad fast but is also seen quickly and usually fixed easier (ie several 50% water changes are a lot easier on a 5g tank then they are on a 200....if i wanted i could likely do one an hour (50% change) with my current ro unit...pretty hard to make 100G of Ro/di in a hour though to fix even one change...let a alone a couple in a couple days...

anyway i certainly keep you guys posted as it goes...just pulled out some sort of worm that is didnt recognize as good...it had a very distinct head and didnt appear to have any bristles...it may have been a harmless bristle but it looked funny so it got the flush, plus it looked constipated and was doing the funky chicken all over the tank with a big chunk of you know what getting rubbed on everything...my daughter then asked me to pour salt in the toilet so the water would be salty and he a had a chance of living..LOL
