First of all... I went to the LFS to buy a turbo snail or two to help with glass cleaning and diatoms. LFS guy, who is well respected among the local reefing community says that he's out of turbo snails but nass snails will do all of the same things. Well, I've been reading since I got home (store is about an hour away). From what I can tell that's not true. I'm all down for having my sand clean but dang... lol

Anyway. After I acclimated the snails and all and put them in the tank, one of them somehow managed to get turned over onto it's back. When it flipped itself back over (in just a few seconds) only what I can describe (i have no snail experience) as it's whole body coming out of it's shell, came out and got all sandy. It has since buried under in the sand but it's 'stuff' is still out there flappin' in the wind  Is this acceptable snail behavior? Did I manage to give my snail a death sentence immediately once I put him in the tank? Whatever it is.. it's creepy!

They have a very large foot, don't worry. Also, they only eat meat, so they're not like a turbo at all.

Yes, nass spend most of the day buried in the sand, and come out during feeding and night time. They only eat meat. I really like them as part of my CUC, but you should get some algae eating snails as well.

lol okay thanks. You can imagine that never seeing that before would be pretty creepy. I didn't know whether to laugh hysterically at the bizarreness of it all or be concerned. In my head I was like, "Um.. dude... I wish you'd roll that back in or something... that ain't right!" =P

coming out at night brings me to another point... I have a yellow clown goby that has dedicated his life to hiding behind my rocks at the back and bottom of my tank with my peppermint shrimp. Because of the addition of these nass snails, do I need to be concerned for his well being? I dont' want to be one of those horror stories where my snails attacked a fish.. lol

I have a lot of nass snails, as well as little fish that live in the rocks, etc. and the snails have never touched them. When fish die the snails help clean them up, which is nice. Extremely gross, but helpful.

no worries about the snails attacking your fish as long as the fish is healthy. Those Nass snails have some noses on them too. if that food hits the substrate, the rest of the tank better be quick because those nass snails are on it in a hurry.
