I was throwing around the idea of instead buying a bio filtration unit just try to make a natural occurring one in the fish aquarium,I think it's possible do you?

Would having live rock with some chaeto and 2 powerheads work

If you got some better ideas and recipes for a natural biofilter in the aquarium please share them as I'm open to any good suggestions

This is for a 30g tall

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
All you need is movement to allow for gas exchange and a medium for the growth of beneficial bacteria. Google Lee Chin Eng's system, Dr. Adey's system, Berlin system ( although that has a skimmer) or Jaubert's system.

You will probably be limited to soft corals and hardy lps but it's doable.

Most reef tanks only have live-rock and possibly some macro algae such as cheato and some type of mechanical filtration, such as GAC and/or a protein skimmer.
