Today was a productive day. Scored a 75GPD RO/DI unit today, found a 6? gallon Eclipse hex tank at Good-Will for $10, picked up all the electrical parts I needed to waterproof my halide wiring, as well as picked up some of the wood I'd need to build the hood with. Then tomorrow I should be picking up the new tank, and then on Saturday I should be getting my hammer and frogspawn frags I found locally.

Forgot to mention that my GF bought me a late anniversary/early birthday present.

Needless to say, I'm quite happy and can't wait to get it! :D

Nice work, bud!! It looks like it's coming along very nicely.
I'll google that reef controller. I'm not familiar with any controllers, so I will learn what they do and how helpful are they.
Congrats on your steady work. Subscribed!

Here are some pictures of the progress with the halide. As I mentioned before, I want to waterproof the hell out of this thing. I don't need spray or salt creep messing it up.

So I picked up $7 worth of parts from Lowe's to help. I got a 3 way Junction box, two 1/2" reducers, 4' of flexible conduit, a pack of conduit straps, and a threaded to slip union.

I then picked up a pair of grommets to use inside the slip reducers.

Finally, I drilled a pair of holes in the back of the reflector to use as a mounting point for the hood. I decided against hard mounting the threaded portion of the fixture so that I may use the joint to help reduce resistance when I open and close the canopy.

Here's the next thread to keep your eyes on. http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-of...ios-17g-nano-reef-build-89931.html#post912088

This thread will keep going until the 17g is ready, but I've been ready for an upgrade for a long time. The new tank will use all of the old equipment including the 70w MH that I've been building.

Great thread and congrats to you... I started with a Nano and now finally have my dream custom tank, holding 110g. But never ever add any fish before finishing the cycle. I let mine cycle for over 2 months ... just to be on the safe side. Patience patiance buddy!

Though I am going to be using black sand instead of the poolfilter sand I was running in the 12, the 17 will have all the live rock it had before as well as some new live rock that a LFS is holding for me. The new tank will be filled with the old water and the new live rock and given any time needed to cycle before everything living is moved.
