So my puffers are movin' on up!

The 29 is almost done, and pictures will come soon after. All I got left is a little aquascaping and to hang the lights.

Well they are in, took a little break for dinner and such, but with the exception of hanging the lights, they are safe and sound in there new home.

Old tank on top, new tank on the bottom.

This is with the flash off to emphasize lighting color, and all lights on.

Oh crap, I nearly forgot. They were brackish 1.005 before the swap, and the water I added was 1.005, but I haven't checked it to make sure everything was cool. I was thinking about upping the salinity some. I've read about the size vs. salinity, and felt they were a little on the small side for full marine, but I've also heard of people converting them anyway.

One thing is for certain, the lighting is marine ready! I picked up a pack pair of 23w 6500k compact florescents to fit in that hood, and my GF picked up a 15w actinic tube to round out the available sockets in the reptile hood that I'm using. So I've got 46+15=61/(29-10%)=2.35wpg. I'll put up pics when I get the actinic bulb over the weekend.

lol yea i heard about the size thing too. It took me 2 1/2 years to get my puffer to full SW lol i guess i just went really slow with him, he's only 3 inches i think thats the biggest he will get, dont think he'll grown much more but unless he just gets fat he's a very plump little guy

your light is better than mine i just have a single bulb original fixture i just got a new corallife 10ki daylight lol im hoping i can grow GSP or maybe Xenia with that

I've been reading an interesting thread on thepufferoforum about acclimating smaller puffers, and the results are promising.

    http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15647

To be honest, that's all I want as well. Some GSP for my GSPs! If I get lucky, maybe some other interesting corals will do well also. The main reason I have that much lighiting is so that I could run the actinic and white seperately, and the 2 CF bulbs act somewhat like MH, in the way that they are somewhat like spotlights and you get a shimmer affect from them. So I could just have 1 half the tank illuminated.

ill take a look at the link :) i bet when you get them acclimated to full SW your puffers are going to love the rock, mine loves going in and out of the caves of the base rock taht i have

yea you should be able to grow some simple corals with your lights the shimmer affect is going to be cool, i bet the puffers look great under the actinics. I was originally looking at a cheapo odyssea 24inch MH but decided against, i might still look into getting it, i dont even know if ill be able to grow GSP with my single bulb but their weeds so i hope so :D

I've been adding half a cup of salt a week, and the puffers seem to be doing pretty well with it. I definitely need to get more pictures up of them but they are doing well.
