    can you use a t8 bulb in a t 12 fixture

    I believe as long as the prongs match the standoffs/tombstones, yes you can. When dealing with T8, T12, etc, these are not high output lamps, and as long as the fixture can accomodate clearances required for the difference in diameter of these bulbs; they should be completely interchangable.

    OK thank you the thing i have came across is i have been using t12 03 Actinic bulbs and think there being phased out( old fashion) getting hard to find from my normal lfs i deal with and am looking to use 32W t8 in place of the 40w t12s im having a hard time finding any more locally.

    In the home lighting market there are adaptors to convert the old fixtures to accept the smaller diameter lamps its just a platic reducing ring that fits inside the end caps of the T12 and then a T8 fits, without wobbling about ( contact issues)

    I have used t8's to replace t12 bulbs with no issues. At worst you can get the adapters Steve is speaking about.
