So for the first time ever....I have developed an ich infestation in my DT despite a very disciplined QT process. My Purple tang who has been in the tank longer than most, has developed the infestation. He eats very well and still defends his territory but the ich is getting worse. My belief is to remove him and treat. However, I am also a HUGE fan of low stress. So now I have a sick fish in a reef with my beliefs of low stress contradicting what I feel I should do. Damn ich.

depends on if you'd rather risk losing all your fish or just one. IMO

Even in an established system with some fish that are not young? In other words they have been around and been through a lot through out the years.

You never know what could happen. I had an "established" clown that suddenly succumbed to ICH when i introduced a clown. But a new firefish was just fine.

I'm a believer in low stress as well. If he's still eating well, let him be. Removal should be a last resort, IMHO.

this is the key, as long as he's eating he has a chance, but once they stop eating IMO it normally too late. you just gotta decide when to QT him.

I'm trying to understand something must have changed, ok this is my cure and has always worked for me
you must lower your salinty to 1.017 very slowly
you must raise the temp between 80 -82
use marc weiss coral vital as directed
it will take 2 -3 weeks for all the cryst to die off.
I know it sounds scary but if done slowly and with great care it will work.
a purple tang is a great fish but ick prone, i hate to see them die. James

I think ich is more internal, so those may not work, not to mention it only lives a part of it's life on the fish. Those would be better at preventing than "curing".
