If you want to stay under $600, then look at the SRO 3000 or XP 3000. Both will get under and be a little better. The new Sicce pumps are better than the old and won't start backwards, but I was never a fan of multiple pumps... just me, YMMV. The Bubble blaster pumps are quite good. You don't HAVE to get a cone, but they are better. Both will do you quite well for under $600.

And you should go by 300 gallons. You will stock to the volume you have.

thanks powerman, what makes the cone better? Does it force more waste bubbles to the top?

It isn't a fundamental leap, it's a tweak. Just makes it more stable, less turbulent, better foam head. But if the cone is not for you, don't loose sleep over it. The Octo cylinder is still a quality skimmer and the BB pump is a quality pump.

So, you would suggest buying skimmer off total water volume sump, fuge, and all? I always have taken 1.5x display when I bought a skimmer. (which I guess has always worked out to be about the same as total water volume)

My ro-ps-3000int, is actually the sro-3000int I found out the other day lol. It says in big clear lettering RO-PS-3000int though!

BashSea will make custom sicce powered Blu Demon skimmers for around 600 rated to that tank. Made all in the USA too.

    This would be my pick:
    AquaMaxx In-Sump Protein Skimmer
I'm using the 250 model and love it. This line is actually the old Warner Marine line, just bought and re-branded by Aquamaxx.

Just realized my link doesn't go to a specific model; I was thinking the 350 for you.
