I have my first day of work tomrrow. No clue whats going on with my temp, havent done a WC or topped anything off. However my temp has slowly all day been decreasing from its normal of 79.5 to now 78.2 at its low for the day. I have a RKL and the heater function usually keeps it within .5 of 79.5 degrees.

I really cannot stay up and watch this and stress bout it while I have my first day of my new job tomorrow. IF my heater is going bad do you think it will be fine until i get home from work tomorrow, if so, I can pickup a new heater on the way home.

never a bad idea to have 2 heaters in a tank! in fact its a great idea! sounds like maybe you should be raising the house temp for the night and buying 2 new heaters though!

I know, its just like, who would have guessed this would happen at 10 pm before my first day of work!!!!!!!!!! I have to get up at like 5 am. I dont even know what to do right now, it seems to be slowly dropping still. Its at 78.1 now. The thing is, my house furnace sucks and doesnt maintain a steady temp either but I will raise it. I couldnt even buy or get another heater if I wanted one.

I really don't think there is much you could do to keep the temp up until you get home from work. I wouldn't worry to much about something that you can't really control. Lessons learned though. Just pick up the new heater on your way home from work tomorrow. The only thing you could really do is heat up water to put in there, but that is just a band aid fix at best.

i'd just suck up the 1 day heating bill and crank the thermostat to 82 till ya get a new heater! better than losing everything in the tank! good luck!

Yea thats the point im kind of at right now. I raised the house temperature to 75 degrees. I will be up in like 5 hours, and at this rate, IF the heater is out of commission, the temperature shouldnt drop too much in these 5 hours. If it significantly does, I will raise the house temperature much more and everything will just have to hold on until I get home from work round 5pm.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. From your stock list I doubt anything will die from 72-75 degree water. Its happening slowly, you have hardy corals and fish. I lost power in a Montana winter for 18 hours and just wraped a blanket around my 46 it was fine.

If I was in your place, bud, I would also crank the temp for tonight, and in the morning, leave money on the table with a note to a family member with the brand of heater that you want. You can also do an email and direct your family member to it to get you exactly the one you want in your LFS. That way as soon as LFS opens you can have a heater (or two as suggested by cosmo) and no more worries.
