Tom.n.day thanks for all the advice. I can see that you all on this form will be of great help. The return pump that I mentioned I haven't purchased yet as I am taking it slow with this project. I want to make sure that I make as little mistakes as possible. The mag 12 according to the manufacturer specs rates this at approximate 800gph at 5' h.o.p. Now the sump and overflow maker recommend the mag 9.5. The specs for the 9.5 says that at 5' h.o.p. it is less than 700gph so I will most likely revisit that pump again thanks to your recommendation.
I like the idea of splitting the line to both sumps can you explain in a little more detail?

    Thanks
    Ed

Todd I didn't realize what J/K meant. Im not really up to speed on acronyms. Your right budget is the key right now thats why I am looking to see if I can reuse any of my existing equipment and then as you have work them out of the picture. I'll certainly check out the vid and get back to you. Thanks for the help

I'm looking forward to this build being done already and I haven't even started. I don't regret making the decision to convert at first I was hesitant because I thought it would be that much more difficult but after having to manage my fw with such a heavy bio which I would spend anywhere from 3-6 hours once a week cleaning and maintaining it that if I spend that much time with SW I will be just fine.

Oh by the way my tank has a tempered glass bottom so drilling is out of the question. Im still considering selling my current and buying a predrilled but I haven't decided yet. Not sure how much I can get for it vs the cost of a predrilled 75g which I've priced at low end of $600. I've found cheaper but the all want local pick up. I'm in Miami and most of these low priced are up north. If any knows where I can get one lower than $600 please let me know
    Thanks
    Ed

I sure can. If you use PVC piping, you can take the drain from the siphon (I use an eshopps) and then from the tube drop it 12 inchs or so with piping and attach a T to it. the continue plumbing the now seperated lines to your sump and refugium. In my sump, I have a bubble divider dividing my skimmer and heater to my return pump. on the other side, my refugium then dumps to my return pump. I hope this makes sense!

Totally agree on the drilling first, then set up. I was too far along when I realized this, and rely on my DIY overflows and I would have drilled if I knew what I was doing first.

Usually the sides are not tempered glass.
