The room inside my stand is 66.5" long and 21.5" deep and 3ft of height from floor to bottom of glass.

I am building a fowl to start with and would like to run a fuge and skimmer for sure in the sump (have considered a scrubber but it seems to be more work). Other basic space needed in the sump will be a return pump (probably a eheim 1262), heaters, temperature, etc.

I will also need some room under there for an ATO or I could put a container in the garage (which is on the other side of this wall) and pipe it in if I need to save space in the sump.

I was originally thinking of getting a 75gal to use as a sump but later thought it might take up too much room inside the stand; what do you think?

Would two smaller tanks plumbed together be a better idea? Maybe one up higher than the other to save more room (build a shelf for one or something)?

    Thanks

My advice... Always go as big as you can. I like half your DT volume. So around 100G.. For the DIY route: I would get a standard tank IE: aqueon maybe the 90g (48.5" x 18.5" x 25.4"). Re-search some sump/fuge designs and order some panes of glass for baffles, or find a local glass company to cut you some. Even HD or lowes sells glass and can easily cut to size with glass cutters.

Or email some tank manufacturers and get a quote.

If you are in SO CA check out charlie and the fish tank factory. He has connections with a tank manufacturer that will make you just about anything for dirt cheap, but idk if he ships.

As for ATO, your going to need something fairly big that most likely wont fit in the stand. I have a 240 display with 120 sump and I use a 50 gallon barrel that is gravity fed to a float valve. This works for me because my sump is in the garage and i don't care for unsightly equipment in there. You may want to do the same.. You can always get ATO systems and plumb them through walls i guess.

Its going to be a tight fit in there. Sound like you have a large area.. It just all depends what equip your running. Like a chiller? Is that going to squeeze in there too?

Watch out for the supports, make up a template out of wood to see what can squeeze in there.

    my 2 cents.

Yeah I shouldn't have much of a problem with space right now with a fowl since all I will really run is a skimmer, return pump, heaters, ATO, fuge.

I found a 75gal used that I just bought so hopefully it will work well. We shall see...
