I have had an Emperor Angel now for about six months. I bought it as a juvenile and I am not sure how close to maturity it was. It was about 3" long. The black and white colors where more bold and sharp. My question is the colors seem to be fading and I am wondering if it is moving to adult coloration? How long does it take for an Emp to gain mature colors? There have been no changes in the tank to speak of or changes in fish behavior. Any advice would be appreciated...

    Hi Jakerma

I reckon that fish is about to start changing colour - and would expect it will reach adult colour in 3 - 6 months time from now - IME the colours change on back 1st - I have recently seen one about same size as yours, where the top 3rd of the fish is adult colour but it still has its juvenile blue and white on the underside

jakerma - I dont believe the change to adult colours affects appetite

try garlic enahanced foods (use one of the bottled brands for convenience or crush some cloves of garlic and add to your food stuffs)- as it might stimulate feeding and is considered by many to be a better parasite control method than FW dips

if the fish is stressed by the Ich and is not feeding the FW dips may make things worse

hope it goes well for you both

+1 if you only have a few spots of ich a freshwater dip is not an option at that point. Keep up with the garlic. My christmas wrasse changes more every day. It's clearly visably changes every day. Hope this is the case for you.

I think it might be the coloration of the fish changing from juvi to adult. Hopefully not ich but could there be any new changes to the tank to get it to stop eating?
