That chip is actually on the bottom of the side panel. No crack lines or anything noticable yet. I'm thinking it is okay because of the reinforcement by the eurobracing on the inside of that edge. I still have the chip that came off of it. Should I try epoxying it back or just do the silicone idea? The top rim actually doesn't have any chips. It's just a poor finish job from glasscages.

if you are worried about the chip and it is on the bottom of hte side pane, you can consider flipping that pane...

Yeah, I guess I could. But that means having to remove that one as well. I talked to a glass shop and he tells me that an oyster crack like that will not likely lead to anything disasterous. Says I can use UV glue or epoxy and that should stablize it if I am concern. Thanks for the tip.

I know. Patience I have. Time? Not so much as I have a 1 year old I have to take care of when I do have free time. I just have to remove the silicone from the rest of the other corners and I will be ready to apply the new one. One thing I must say is that the black silicone is a lot more resilient then the clear.

was it already black? yea, the black is pretty strong. just be sure when you are removing it, that you dont get the blade between the panes and damage the seam. othewise, you will be fine. also, you have to get off any residue. the corner should be as clear as the middle of the pane. if you get it like that, you will get a successful new seal.

Yes, the silicone was black already. The tank was sealed with black along the vertical edges and clear at the bottom. Strange how they would skimp out on such a small cost. Oh well. I am making sure I get every last speck of silicone off the surface of what I plan on resealing. Thanks.

I will be attempting the resiliconing of my tank tonight. Pending the weather of course since hurricane Earl has brought in some unexpected rain. Wish me luck guys.

Best of luck to you on it! take your time. dont forget, if you want a perfect edge, to tape the glass about 1/4" from where the seam will be. IE: if you have 1/2" glass, on the front panel, tape about 3/4" inside the edge. on the existing corners that you are not pulling apart, tape 1/4" in. be sure to pull that tape quickly as it will not be pullable when it starts to dry. or you can have a 2nd person do the finger spreading and then pulling the tape as they go .

Thanks pickupman. I was just wondering about the amount of space to leave. Great tip. I plan on doing all of the seam first before pulling off the tape so it may take me 10 minutes before getting to them. Hope that doesn't create any problems. I am doing the front glass and all of the other seams from the bottom ones to the vertical ones.
