Unfortunately because of sandy I have been without power for 12 days. I tried my best but was unable to save my tank. My question is since I need to start all over is my live rock still good or do I have to also replace it. Thanks

So sorry to hear that :(

I've been wondering the same thing about doing this with my rock. Here's a bump :)

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You will have die off from the rock, it will basically have to be cured again. Once you are able to get power again just provide flow/O2 and the appropriate SG and temp, it should recycle again much quicker, if it has stayed wet, than if you were to dry it out.

    Good luck.

Thank you. It is hard enough to start all over with the fish, coral, snails, and crabs. I wasn't sure if I was going to have to throw out everything

I can not imagine the frustration and disappointment.

Even if the rock does dry out it simply needs to be recycled, as does the tank.

If the rock hasn't been properly stored it is now considered dead. What you could do is reuse the rock and if you're a patient person only buy a little of new live rock and stack it up, eventually all the cultured bacteria and algae can renew the old live rock. Or you could use new live rock and some plain volcanic rock to do the same thing. You will need to cycle the water for a while though and there will have to be good circulation in the tank for this to work. So I'd only do it if I was patient!

If by volcanic rock, you mean lava rock,it's never a good idea for use in marine aquariums,it can be prone to leeching toxic metals.

OP-sorry for the loss, been there myself, good luck with restarting.

Thanks so much for all of your help. I did learn a very expensive lesson. It is time to buy a generator.
