Hi all, I will be starting a 38g reef tank soon (not the 50g I hoped) and I am needing some suggestions for a skimmer. It will not have a sump, so I'll need something HOB. I plan on having softies, lps, polyps, and probably some beginner sps.

I was looking at the Octopus BH-100, either the regular one or the one with the surface skimmer. Not sure if that one is any better though. I know you can't skimp on price for protein skimmers and that one seems on the lower end, so I'm wondering if its a good one.

Any thoughts on that particular one? Anyone have it? Suggestions for other brands?

My price range is just less than $200.

    Thanks!

might be a little overkill, but then again you could stock a little heavier with this...Aqua C Remora.

I have the skimmer it works pretty good it was Packleaders old skimmer. Packleader can give you a lot more info than I can. I like it it works great on my 38g reef tank only negative is it puts bubbles back into the tank. Pack said that it did not when he used it maybe I am doing something wrong.

I think most people have preferences based on what they use. With the exception of a few hobbyists I would expect most have only used one or two brands. I have found that for the price, quality of design, ease of use, and functionality the Reef Octopus brand is a good deal.
