I added some buffer to my top off water, enough to treat my 55 gallon tank. However I didnt use all the water in the bucket and forgotten I used the buffer then after a while I used the water to top off on my freshwater tank, very little but then i remembered the buffer. Will this be a problem, what should I do?

Not likely. If you add a little salt to your freshwater tank normally, don't do that until you do a GH (General Hardness) test on it.

Many freshwater keepers add carbonate and bi-carbonate salts in small amounts to their freshwater tanks. It makes them more stable. Freshwater keepers don't test for KH, they test for GH (General Hardness). If your GH is in line, you don't have to worry about the buffers added to the top-off water.

I'm not sure about your specific situation but IMO, unless you're doing a large water change or topoff I wouldn't worry about buffering. Most people don't change more than 10% at a time which will rarely affect things negatively.
Also I think adding buffers to anything is usually supplementing without testing because buffers affect alkalinity. Just monitor alkalinity and make sure the room is well ventilated and your pH will be just fine. I think buffering in saltwater applications has more potential to do harm than good.
I've never buffered topoff or water changes and I've never noticed a significant issue although I suppose it may depend on what you keep your parameters at. If you keep your alk really high then it would make sense to supplement your water changes but I still see no reason to buffer topoff.

    JMO as always :)
