Hey, I'm new here, as of yesterday, but i figured I'd tell you all my situation. I want to upgrade from a 40 gal to maybe a 55, 75, or 90. I would prefer a bowfront, with a black stand. However my biggest issue is that I'm not sure where I can find a tank for a good price. also, I'm not sure what to get in terms of protein skimmers, lights, sumps, etc. any help, or links, would be greatly appreciated.

Craigslist is where I got my 55 for cheap. Please make sure that if it is empty that they either give you a gaurantee that it doesnt leak or that they fill it up as a test. Getting a new tank and then having to get new floors would really suck.

+2 on CL. If you are thinking 75g, you might as well, go 90g. The standard 75 and 90 have the same footprint (18x48). It is just six inches taller give or take. I have run both, and the 90g is clearly superior IMO.

What you may want to do also is get a decent deal on CL, keep the stand, ditch the tank and get a new one. My 75g from CL started leaking four months into it. A new 90g (not drilled) in WA is about $300. A new 75g is about $175 (glass is not as thick).

They all sound good. What I've really been looking at however is the oceanic 90 gal bowfront, but those aren't cheap. not by a long shot. I'm willing to go a bit more expensive if I have to, because I really need the upgrade considering the fish I currently have crammed into my 40 gal.

I have a 110 "wave front"- one side is bowed- and although I love it, it does have a distorted optical effect near the edge of the bow, and makes my fish look HUGE. If you can deal with that, you'll like a bow. My LFS has a back room clearance section, and they usually have tanks, new and used, for pretty decent prices. The other possibility might be your local reef club members. Once you decide on a size, then you can shop skimmers and such.

Located in Lambertville Michigan. Near Toledo Ohio. The store down the road has a 180 gal bowfront, but they're charging like $2500. That's a big NO. No one else around me has anything or knows where to find it.
