Due to all the corals acumulating in my reef tank, those so far being .

    Toadstool Leather.
    Finger Leather.
    Pulsing Xenia.
    Green/Purple Mushrooms.
    Yellow/Green Polyps.
    Purple tip frogspawn.

would like to add a hammer and torch coral soon too.
the lps coral i know requires calcium, so i tested my parameters they are.
    Ammonia 0ppm
    Nitrite 0ppm
    Nitrate 5ppm
    PH 8.0/8.3
    Phos 0ppm
    Calcium 390
    mag 1150
    alkilinity 10dkh
    Temp 80f
    Salinity 1.024

Now i know my calcium should be at least 380 to 450 so i used seachem reef calcium, which raised it to what it is now, i know it maintains calcium levels but it add 0.3 calcium to every capful, i added two capfuls good for 40 gallon, i have a 55...
For what i have in there i don't think the cloudy water i had the day after was caused from a ionic imbalance but more of a bacterial bloom, as a result this is the only thing i can put down to killing one of my clown fish(r.i.p).

Should i use a ionic calcium supplement, or just dose less next time?
or use reef calcium with the reef complete, i tested my calcium a week later after adding the seachem and it is still at 390, so can't be using much at the moment, any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, i now find my self with the reef /coral bug and would really like to see it thrive...

    Thank you...

IMO just raise your calc slower, I've never used the said products I use B-Ionic for alk/calc and have a calc reactor en route for my 90g but I know that spiking parameters can cause all kinds of hell, I caused a massive algae bloom in one of my tanks from overdosing once, also alk and calc balance off each other and MG helps keep them both stabilized as well so just adding calc can upset other parameters, hence why there is so many 2 step buffers

Not all calcium supplements are the same. Your Mg is too low. You also need to target your Ca to 450, MH to 1350 and your DKH looks good. Are you using Calcium sulfide, or calcium chloride?

And should i raise my params even for the corals i have, thought that was a must for all hard corals only?

Anybody think that the "cloudiness" could be precipitation from low magnesium levels, causing the calcium to precipitate?

Calcium Gluconate is a Polygluconate (gluconate is sugar basically). Im pretty sure they discontinued that product, I may be mistaken but I thought I heard that from a supplier.

It will not effect your Mg which is good and bad. You want to balance your Ca,Mg and DKH. Which its pretty much balanced as of right now. If I remember correctly, you need to use calcium chloride which will raise your Ca and Mg at the same time and help keep it in balance.

gluconate can cause a bacterial bloom that would cause the water to be cloudy for a little while.

If you raise your Mag level to 1400-1500ppm, that will make it easier to raise your Cal. Having a good Mag level will ease your Cal problem. Just remember to do it slowly. Luna

order from bulkreefsupply.com more bang for your buck...better quality too imo ;D
i would slowly raise mag to 1500 ppm, then start working with the cal and alk
