My tank has been setup for 4 weeks. The diatom bloom is going away but I now have this greenish algae that looks like little patches of grass. I am not registering any nitrates and all of my water parameters are good. I am just trying to figure out if this is normal or should I be concerned. Here is a video link.

Since I am a newbie to the forum I am also including the link to the video in case I messed up the youtube wrap function.

    Thanks for any help

This looks like hair algae to me, but it's hard to tell because the video was a little blurry. You can still have algae with 0ppm nitrates. Nitrates isn't what causes algae, sillicate and phosphate is the problem. If you are using tap water, then that's where they are coming from. Remove the phosphate and sillicate and the algae will die off.

Thank you for your answer. It is hard to get good pictures. I am using RO/DI water. Someone told me this was just part of cycling. I am going to wait it out a bit longer while keeping an eye on it.

do you have a TDS meter ? ...I ask because it is knowing if the RO/DI is functioning properly...as well as many other checks in that department.
but knowing your tds is required. : )
imo, hair algae not so much part of cycling.

Yes I agree with whom ever said it was part of the cycle. I believe you are not reading nitrates because the algae is consuming it. If other perimeters are good out could get started on a clean up crew.

Diatoms are part of cycling but hair algae is not. If the rock was live when added to your tank the HA was most likely already there. The fact thats it growing is proof of phosphates and nutrients being present in your tank. Phosphates can be found in MANY products an not just your water source.
Adding a po4 remover such as GFO or a phosphate sponge will help a lot. Cutting down on times and amount of feedings will also help.

I got my RO/DI water from a culligan water filtration machine with TDS meter that read zeros. I haven't bought a RO/DI system yet so I am making trips to keep my 5 gallon water containers filled.

I added LR at start so it probably hitched a ride there. I may have been feeding too much so I am cutting that back. Do I put the phosphate sponge in a media bag or directly in sump area?
