The past few weeks I hav been setting up a 55 gallon.. hoping to get a reef set up. I'm in no hurry. As I'm still looking for protein skimmers and such. Lately I've noticed this pink fiber stuff on my rocks. At first I thought they were worms but don't ever move besides swaying in the water current. Is this pink stuff good or bad? I've been looking online everywhere but can't seem to find anything that looks close to this. Besides anemones.. and I know this is the wrong fourn for this question but what skimmer and lighting would anyone suggest for my system? I'm pretty new to everything reef wise. I've had just fish for a while now. [IMG]

Looks like a type of tube sponge I had in mine for a while. :)

Majano anemone, maybe? I am likely wrong. If they are though I'm sorry.

    They can be pink sometimes.

Maybe someone scraped them off before they shipped the live rock and they are coming back?

Someone I'm sure knows more about this than I do.

    Yes they do :)

I see what look like tube sponges and pineapple sponges IMO. The most they will do is help clean your water.

The one in the middle sort of looks like some macroalgae I had. Mine was a bit more greenish though but did have some pink. I do see pineapple sponges too.

its just a type of algae it doesn't look to bad to me, it most likely will go away on it's own, don't run your lights to long at first, this will help control it, get some snails and blue or red leg crabs they will eat it up. i like asm type skimmers that work off of a pump that creates a lot of small bubbles there also very easy to set up. and the pumps last a long time if kept clean

I think it's a sponge too. Sponges come in every color and shape there is. Good filter feeder, consider them part of your cuc :)
