hello,im thinking of changing my aquarium lighting from a normal bulb into a dimmable led lighting. The problem is i have problem deciding on some materials such as :
    a) should i use a normal Led light or an UV led light?(i want to keep corals)
b)does using a single colored led give any difference to my tank?

    thanks :)

Yes color makes a difference. Most affordable fixtures come in blue and white. What size is the aquarium?

You have lots of research to do :)

Check out rapidled. They have some good DIY kits. Reefbreeders has some affordable lights already built.

You will want to use LEDs that hit the wavelengths your corals need and the wavelengths that make the corals appear the way you want them to. 3 watt LEDs in warm white, cool white, blue, royal blue will hit the basics. Adding UV, cyan, red and other colors will get you a full spectrum of lighting.

If you are handy going DIY will give you the ability to customize and may give you a cheaper price. If you want to purchase a light already made, check the requirements your animals will need and compare them to what the light can produce.

I don't see that DIY is all that cheap. I recently got an Evergrow dimmable full spectrum for $126 shipped. Haven't had it long enough to tell how it will work out though. DIY has more options just when I researched it I didn't see anything cheap about it.

Look on eBay for a 120w full spectrum dimmable led there about $150 shipped. There's a good thread on here by Todd _sails. I plan on buying that fixture when I get my tax return.

It is not UV, UV is 400nm or under, what we use is typically 405-420nm, a violet led with a 425-430nm spike is best.
    Yes.
I would look into Stevesleds, led groupbuy, nanobox, reefbreeders, and maxspect.
