I have a small blue hippo tang I got from Petco a few weeks ago. It started developing a small sore at the tip of its nose a week later and today(2wks later) the sore has gotten so large that I can start to see flesh and bone thru it. What should I do? Is it curable or should I put it out of its misery? The fish is still eating and seems to be functioning just fine. The sore if about twice the size of its eye right now. It just looks very painful and I wonder what is it from and is it contagious. Thanks in advance for your help.

IS it similar to what is happening to this fish? What you are saying sounds more severe? Anyways Make sure you are feeding lots of nori/seaweed Up the vitamins in it, Zoe/Selcon, and Try adding some Vitamin C to soaking the nori/seaweed in. It helps with HLLE if thats what it is (Head and Lateral Line Erosion.)

It's eating lots of nori and frozen brine that is feed to the other tank occupants. Will HLLE ever go away or heal up? Or is it a gonner?

I do see this picture. Wow, that fish looks horrible. Mine is not completely scared up like yours but the nose portion is looking like it has been eaten or poked at. I can try to take a photo tonight. Is it possible that some hermit crabs have gotten to it while it was sleeping at night? And not HLLE?

Wow, Have you tried trating the fish or tank with metaflax. It has worked good with some of my fish problems, but im not sure what can help your tang.

Sorry to see your fish suffering. My blue hippo died last week and I was extremely upset. Wish you all the very best but doesn't look good.
