If you go TEK or ATI you will want to get a 4 bulb unit they are very efficient units and will fry coral IME. I have the same size tank as you. My 6 bulb fixture caused the corals to bleach but not die. Green pigments were the big losers. My softies and LPS lost most if not all color until I put them under ledges. Plating and encrusting SPS had the same problems. I have cut back to 4 bulbs and everything is coloring back up slowly. Any other brands with the included moonlights you could go 6 bulbs without much issue from what I have read in posts. Always get top of the line bulbs though. They last longer more than anything else.

True. That helps a lot and thanks for the info. I get worried because with our 46, we were told 2xt5 would be perfect then it turned out it wasn't then I had to buy another 2xt5 fixture to sit next to it and since then our coral seems to be happy. So i've been thinking with twice the size that maybe the 6 would be just right but then some have had bad experiences with 6 and then some others have good experiences. We want to learn from others experiences but this is where we run into our questions. Thanks again for your advice.

Well, I finally decided on an aquamed oceanlight 6x54 t5 set up with led moon lights. My buddy found it on aquacave and the price was good for 389.95 plus 20% off bulbs so I think this may be my best deal all in all. I almost convinced myself on an hqi fixture but then I'd need a chiller and I want to avoid that. It was a sweet looking fixture but also almost 700 and I'd rather save some money for other things. Thanks for all the great advice.

I you wish you can purchase a couple of pure actinic bulbs with this fixture. Get the best bulbs they have available so they will last longer.

as for bulbs, i ordered all ati - 2 blue +, 2 aqua blue and 2 purple +. I'm not 100% sure how this will all look but I just ran with it. What do you use?
