Ok so my friend is trying to upgrade his tank and his loss is my potential gain?

For $200 I get the a 90 gallon tank, stand, wet / dry filter, heater, and generic hob filter.

I plan on going for a FOWLR.

    Is this a good deal?

Currently he has a freshwater set up which I plan on converting to a marine setup.

I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff... Had a 29 gallon tank in the past but it caught ich and crashed in days...

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is the tank and stand

What kind of lighting does it have? Overall its not a bad deal, and that looks like it could be a decent wet dry filter too. I'd buy it

I believe he just has some normal lighting, no T5s or etc... just some blue lighting for effect.

I don't think thats a problem since I am going FOWLR since lighting is more for corals though, correct?

Also, will I be ok with just that filter and live rock / base rock as my filtration?

Basically I will not be running a sump or anything else...

Well, larger water volume is always a good thing. I'd keep it and try to convert it over to hold only a filter sock.

I'd say you'd be fine with something in the 750 to 1000gph range.

Will 2 750's be enough or should I aim for 3?

Mainly people say the only use for powerheads in a FOWLR is to stir up detritrus, but I also like to supply significant flow for the fish to create a current like a "treadmill" effect.

I think two would be fine, but if you get dead spots obviously get another one or adjust which way they're pointing.
