need help w/ vortech

I have not gotten an apex yet. I was about to, but I needed to replace my stand right away to prevent a catastrophic failure. I plan on getting the apex eventually. I am having trouble deciding on the controller first or the vortech. Do i need two pumps to have it simulate a low and high tide? The mode descriptions don't seem to include how many pumps I need for it.

 

A pump is going to do all the modes... multiple pumps are then just slaved to the master and they work together in sync or anti sync. We all want toys but have limited funds for them. I would say get the controller first just because it offers SOOO much more. Vortechs are nice but not needed. The new ES drivers are a big improvement over the old ones with more flexibility with modes. So if I was buying new I would get the ES. However... if you already have the Apex... then you can go used or buy the older drivers and just get the WXM. Then you can create what ever type of flow you want.

Don't get too carried away... one MP40 is going to give you great flow. A controller is going to give a tone of flexibility and a lot more SAFETY for your tank. If you can afford it all then two Vortechs controlled by a Apex is going to give you all the flexibility you can ever imagine. I ran 10 different profiles and modes through out the day. Is it NEEDED... not really. Is it nice.... hell yes. Can you get there in stages... certainly.

Most definitely get a MP40. Easer to sell... easier to buy used.... unlike other stuff in this hobby they actually hold their value well. Good for selling, not so good for buying.
