JBJ 150w HQI, almost three years old.

    The ballist is external.

The switch used to light up when you turned it on, now it just flickers when you are initially flip the switch.

You can get the light to fire but it either goes out immediately or shuts off about 5 min later.

The fans continue to run when the bulb goes off.

The bulb is nine months old, Phoenix 14k.

Started when hood fell back against the wall, so I was thinking wiring in the hood, but ballist switch light no longer coming on makes me think ballist.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Your ballast might have a short from the accident. Unless you have repair skills you might have to replace it.

    Hey ReefBruh

The ballist was not involved when the hood fell back. It sits about 4 ft away.

The ballist has a fuse, could it be the fuse?

Thanks for the imput, need all I can get. These systems cost a lot of money to replace so I am going to do all I can to find some resolution, but it may come down to that.:-[

Do you have an extra bulb you can use to check and make sure it didn't get damaged. I know with power compacts that those symptoms are generally caused by the bulb being old, damaged, or overheating. Just a thought.

I would guess that you ballast is going bad. I had the same issue with the ballst for my 24 JBJ. It started flickering on and off, sometimes the lights would come on, and sometimes they would not. I used a rubber mallet and lightly hit the ballast which got the bulbs to fir up. Give that a try and see if the bulbs come on. Tap it lightly or smack it a few times. That worked for me for a few weeks but then it totally fried. Good luck, I hope yours isn't bad like mine was.

You bulb is at time to change point. I would check all wires for tight connections and tighten if possible. Definitely double check with a new bulb. Your ballast could be at time to change also.

If the light comes on, and then goes off after 5 mins or so, It's most likely the ballast. If the fuse was bad, you wouldn't get power to the fans etc. I played around with my ballast for a few weeks and your issues sound like the sam that I was having.

If you have questions and such PM me, I'll help if I can. I am also an electrician!

Thank your everyone for your assistance.

New bulb is on the way, just waiting for it. And that is just a coinsidence. I am going to take the hood apart this pm and see what is up. It is such a pain to take apart I was saving as a last resort and hoping to only do it once when the new bulb arrives.

    Oh well.:-/

I to fire it all up and once all the power is turned on, wiggle the wires around running from the ballast to the hood itself and see if anything happens. After that, lightly tap the ballst with a hammer or something similar and see if that kicks the lights on. Atleast then, you can eliminate the bulbs maybe being bad.
