Also check which driver version you are running nvida had realsed drivers last month that fries people cards. They pulled the drivers and know there is a new driver up there.

the stuff you are seeing on the screen are probably artifacts, usually caused by the gpu overheating under load.

the bad drivers where causing fans not to work correctly under load.

LOL... I have been a gamer for a Loooooooooooooooong time... I even opened a Gaming Lounge that was the 1st one on the East Coast to have written permission from Microsoft to use Xbox & all of there branded products in a Pay to Play. I've played both PC & console games. Both have their place. But let's cut through the BS in the gaming world.

The cost of a real gaming PC has always been pricey & in todays world is stupid. The consoles of today are computers (Example: XBOX & Playstation 3. Sorry Nintendo needs to get out of the stupid memory block world.) Same damn parts when it comes down to it.

The only thing is that Microsoft has perfected the real online gaming feeling with the Xbox online & no one can argue that. Sony needs to get their head out of the sand if they plan on making it, a high percent of PS3 users bought it because of it being a cheap way to get a blue-ray player. Now, that players are under $100 & still dropping. Sony sales are dropping badly.

Yes, PC games do have some sick graphics, but let's be realistic. I have purchased video cards for customers over the years, that cost $2000.00, just for the card and even today you can spend $1000.00 on the card itself. Just for it to be out dated in 6 months.

Consoles have made it plain & simple. Graphics are always getting better & the sound is amazing. Console mfg set the foundation & it's up for game developers to push the bar.

In the PC world, the game developers set the foundation & it's up to the rest of the hardware developers to push the bar.

Kinda odd in a sense.. But both do still have their place. ;D

And here is an example that software can kill hardware.. ;D If this is the case for him, by the looks of it. His GPU might be toast.

    Sound familiar????

Did some reading on some forums.. I'd read them all & basically pick you poison.. lol...

    Post:
Ok so in game after 1-2hours I crash after experiencing artifacts. I have fan on high 65-100% in game I am at 58-65 c. I know its not heating. I know it's not an OS issue and I have no PSU issues (650 watt antec PSU). This is for XFX 8800 GT XT (640-950) factory overclock. When I turn memory to stock it last's much longer before crash then when in stock over-clock, still crashes though just gives me extra hour before it does. I am thinking of sending it back but would like to know what the problem is or if others have had the same issues.

It has crashed in various games, never at idle or just using windows. Recently I have rebooted and it skips over windows boot and then goes to BIOS and says BSOD a piece of hardware has prevented you form booting, then I reboot and windows boots. it has progressively became worse over time and now I am fed up, I rip COH and have lost many games cause of crashes

    Another post:
I have the same issue with my EVGA 8800 GT KO (675/975 factory OC). These cards are basically pushed to the limit and the stock cooler just isn't up to the task. Although, I agree it isn't fully a heat issue as I've used an aftermarket cooler and ran the card at 35'C Idle / 42'C full load in all sorts of configurations and it still crashes fairly quickly. Doesn't matter what driver version. Problem as progressively gotten worse as well, so I'm RMAing mine. This is a semi-common problem from a look at the forums.

The problem is definitely faulty memory on the video card. The artifacts you get before/after the lockup pause before progressing towards a BSOD is a the textures getting all mixed up on the memory. On my card, at this point, if I kill the game, I won't BSOD. Because of where my faulty chip is, I'm actually able to play low memory games for hours without a problem, but demanding games the crash happens rather quickly.

    Post:
first off, sounds like a faulty card. RMA it. second off, perhaps there is a problem with the memory heatsink contact. RMA it. third, there could be a general cooling problem in your computer which affects the ram temps. try better case cooling perhaps. the 8800GT hsf pulls air from within the case and spits it out inside too.

turned my graphics to auto and had no crashes since

    Post:
Is your 8800gt overclocked? Overclocked from the factory even?

    Get this program: CPUID

It will show your temps. If they are not around 60C then I'd get RivaTuner or a similar program to bump up the fan speeds.

    Post:
Those drivers have been notoriously shoddy. I'm running with 185 something (downgraded because of borderlands crashes from 191, and can't check exact version now because I'm in class) and my 8800gt is running MW2 like a pro. You could also try the beta 195 drivers from nvidia, I've been hearing good things about them.

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.39 BETA

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.55

The first ones are the older ones I've heard good things about, don't know much about the second set.

I had a whole boat load of aweful FPS, and I have a system that is over the top. I was using the 191.XX drivers. Nvidia's 195.xx patch has support for MW2, and it most certainly got my Tri sli working correctly, and resolved my framerate/choppiness.

    Post:
Ok guys, it seems that you were right. I cleaned up my computer. You can't imagine how much dust there was in my fans. It seems that the crashes are now fixed, I'll post there if they happen again. Thanks for your help.
