My tank has finished cycling and I have added 2 green chromis each about 1" long. I am feeding them flakes right now until I add more fish, but I don't know how much food I should be giving them at each feeding.

I was told by the fish store that I shouldn't add more than they can eat in 3 minutes, but I am having trouble judging what amount that is. Is there a formula to use such as X amount per inch of fish? or how do you decide how much is enough?

My life dictates that I feed them once per day, and I have 2 snails and 2 hermits to help with any food that settles.

Drop a small pinch in. If they eat it all in under 3 minutes add another small pinch in until they stop showing interest or 3 minutes hits. There's really no "set" amount as all fish are different. If you've just added them today they may not eat ot will eat very little while they adjust.

I've had them for a week, and they keep eating till the food is all gone. I don't know if I should be adding more. Are they like a cat and stop when they are full, or are they like a dog and keep eating as long as their is food?

As Airstreamin pointed out, all fish are different. Being related to damsels, the chromis may keep eating as long as there is food. The 3-minute rule has always worked well for me, and as long as they're staying healthy, they're getting plenty to eat.

+1 to Mr. Bill.......they will keep on eating...just try and bit and keep adding until the 3 minutes is up, I usually do enough that's equal to about two good sized pinches of food -frozen same thing....but I have more fish than you and feed about three times a day.

Alright! I'll just keep on with what I've been doing. What are the signs that a fish is not healthy? I don't want them to die for me to figure out I'm doing something wrong.

I slowly feed my little clown until he doesn't want anymore. Nothing goes to waste!
