Your points are all taken. I may be a bit over my head with the flame scallop. My params are all good (zero nitrate/phosphate...calcium/alk/mag all steady) so I think he will be alright, but I am monitoring.

Yes, I did read up on the mandarin...I seeded my tank with Tigger Pods several weeks ago, as I knew I wanted one. This one is also eating baby brine shrimp - made the LFS guy demonstrate before I got him.

Curiously enough, the tangs are exhibiting zero aggression...I think the blue is too small right now for the yellow to even notice. My coral beauty bullied the flame angel for about a day but he's laying off now. I'm working on plans for a larger tank - likely a 180 - will probably transfer the blue tang to that eventually.

Hi AGF, In regard to the Flame Scallop, it's not necessarily the parameters that's the issue. It's that our home systems cannot sustain them. They require a lot of food, a lot. The longest I've been able to keep one is a little over a year. They prefer darkness and once they find a deep crevice in the rock work, sometimes its hard to reach to target feed.

Here is some very helpful info.

The tangs might be very juvenile now. Once they mature, they'll likely exhibit more aggression.

Ill concurr with the others here on the tangs. the only tangs IMO that can be put as singles are smaller specimens of bristle tooth tangs. Also.. to Confirm.

YES that is an ACAN Lord frag. nice color too. and YES that is a Montipora CAP. it will plate out glue it down so the critters dont toss it to the wayside.

You will need to be seeding your tank every week or two to keep it healthy while your tank establishes itself; keep in mind that while accepting other foods is great, in no way does this mean rely on him getting food from a once or twice a day feeding. The metabolism of these beautiful little guys has evolved to be constantly "grazing" on pods; loading them up with food once a day is not healthy for these fish. Think about how they eat in the wild, we cannot change years upon years of evolution.

As far as the tangs, it is not about aggression so much as it is about stress and being unfair to the animal. These fish swim countless miles a day, even juveniles. Tangs are very prone to marine ick and stress increases susceptibility to ick and other diseases. Just keep a careful eye on your tank and get that 180 up when you can. Besides, we like bigger tanks here anyways ;)

Thanks. Duly noted re: the pods. As for the brine shrimp, I have a TOM hatchery in the tank providing a steady stream of food for the mandarin. He has been an active grazer for the past few days so I am optimistic.
