I have read a few articles about sps and carbon that say not to use. Ive had sps for over a year and find that when I use carbon my coral do not open as fully, and do not look as healthy. I do however run carbon for 1 week a month. And I have noticed this corrasponds to a slight rise in phos. that could be the answer but the rise is only .04 from .02 I thought I posted earlier but I dont see it now, and this explains a bit better. good luck!

Sad news Jason, sorry to read this

I am not experienced enough myself to give any valid opinions but will offer my thoughts after reading the whole thread

if it had just been SPS , then I would have suspected some kind of infection
but as it seems to have also moved onto LPS corals , then I suspect its a parameter that is not measured problem

is it possible the the combination of Zeovit and Carbon , couple with that bubble king skimmer have serioulsy reduced some of the minor and trace elements in your system
and thus the corals are being deprived of something they need , that we dont have the test kits to measure for?

what has been your water change regime up till this point? as maybe even with routine 10% water changes, your pulling things out of the water at a higher ratio than they are being replenished.

I hope you can pull it around

    Steve

    Thanks All.
I think part of the issues is the DOW Calcium. Despite reading that the Borate levels have only long term issues, my problems where nearly instant.
As for Zeo Issues. Zeovit requires Carbon and heavy skimming to work as desired.

I appreciate all the suggestions and am trying to respond to each and every post in order to create a complete journal and to encourage further thoughts. No suggestion can be silly or wrong so keep them coming

Very sorry to hear this. How long have you been doing the 2x a week 40gallon water changes?
