hey guys, i've discovered a weird "stuff" growing on my rock... i want to say its some sort of algae, just because i haven't added any corals, and with the problems i've had with water quality in the past (and still suffering), i don't think its a coral at all...what makes it even funnier, it looks a lot like SPS! some sort of acropora or montipora... they have a base, but then branch off.. also, they used to be pink, but as of tonight, all seem to be more red than before... may be a coincidence, but i thought it might be worth mentioning... it started showing up about the same time as my "leafy" stuff (halimeda, and some other plant that i can't find an ID on)... i've searched wetwebmedia, but can't find any pics that are similar, and i can't take my own pic because of a sorry camera, but i'm sure someone on here knows what i'm talking about.. a shortened description i suppose would be "a pink/red branching algae" i kind of like it because its the closest thing that resembles a coral that i have, except for the bubble algae, which i know is bad.... but maybe this other stuff is good... or at least grow into something attractive!

I have the exact same thing growing on my rock. Its a type of sponge according to my LFS. They said it wont live long enough to get very big and will just eventualy get covered in coralline.

umm... yeah, sure, i'm up for calling it a sponge... still not too sure though...

as far as taking a picture, last time i tried to take one of my aquarium, when i tried for a closeup of something, the color completely dissappeared in the picture...i think it had something to do with the flash, cause the piece of LR i was trying to shoot looked like a plain greyish/brown that you'd see on the shore of a lake or something... anyway... i don't know if once i transfer the pic from the camera to the computer if it will change it or what... but on the camera's screen, you just couldn't tell at all what i was taking a picture of!

kangaroo, does your stuff have really fine hairs growing off the ends? i've seen pics of tunicates, and i really don't believe that's what it is... and what in the world is foram? google, here i come!
