The brown looking egg thing between my polyps. I walked up to the tank and it snapped closed. Only way I seen it was it made a little dust storm. I then watched it and it moved a little then opens. Any one know? image.jpg

    Hi and welcome to 3reef.

Can you please circle the item you need an ID on.

If not, my uneducated guesses are:

    1. Bi-valve of some sort.
    2. Barnacle.
    3. Tunicate

OK, saw a larger image somewhere else.

Probably Oyster of some sort, harmless.

Thanks for your time. It looks to be a filter feed of some sort. I tried to pull it off and not happening. It is soft to the touch. It will get to live for now.

Most things are harmless. If it's soft and leathery to the touch than it's a tunicate probably, looks like an Oyster, guess I will never know for sure. ;)

    And you're welcome. ;D

I think the softness may be due to the overgrowth. It's shaped like an Ark Clam, and appears to be embedded into the rock the same way an Ark Clam would be embedded. They often move when they sense movement or change in lighting (usually when a shadow passes over them).

    Cheers,

    Don
