I would like to see ideas (some of your pics) of how some of you arranged the plants in your tank.

here is my tank from the initial planting to current. It's not real methodical, just kinda put the tall ones in the back and the short one's up front. haha

What type of planted reef do you want? generally speaking, there are usually three common classifications of macro-algae habitats, patch reefs, lagoons, and mangrove swamps. You probably want a lagoon type, as this is typical, but the others are cool as well. You can certainly create your own hybrid, these are just what is usually found in nature. I've tried a few times, but I usually keep my nutrients too low to keep macro algae. I don't have any pics handy. These are just from google image searches.

A patch reef typically is found as a small patch of reef. There is lots of sand and will have some seagrass, with very few rocks, and pieces of algae in the rocks. Possibly some soft corals and maybe lps corals.

A lagoon, will tend to have more rocks, with lots of macro algae growing on them, and in the crevices. Usually, it will be mostly dominated by one type of algae. There can be other types though and corals.

The third is a mangrove swamp. I have seen a few, but this is less common, and I couldn't find any pics now. Basically, you will have to suspend a mangrove root, and let the plant grow out of the water. So, you need a suspended light. The roots spread out and corals grown in, around and on them.
Here is a pic of a mangrove reef:

Sorry..just assumed you were asking about freshwater plants! haha I like "planted" saltwater tanks though. I hope to see a build thread in the near future!
