I have a current Fission Power Skimmer 220g on my 180 and have had so many issue's over flows, no skim ect. so i need to spend for the right skimmer. looking at the AquaC Ev-240. i'm very short on space in the sump. i was thinking of buying a small 10g tank and house the skimmer in that. Am i going to run into any issue?? any insight would be great?

Not sure what you are asking. Will water from sump be going into the 10 gal. and then back to sump or is the 10 gal. just in case of over flow? Why not try to get the other one set up properly? Over flow can be from many causes, how about a little info on what you have tried and maybe pics of the set up?

I would suggest the Octopus extreme 200 skimmer that tank.

I have not had great luck with AquaC skimmers, and they need a pressure pump to work well, so the cost is higher to purchase and use (electricity). For me they seem to need adjusted to much.

I would go from the sump or dt to the 10gal and then run the output on the skimmer to the sump.

I'm with UncleJed, why not try to fix the one you have now? Tell us what you have tried and maybe you can get the current one working properly. I'm not sure of your experience level, but maybe you didn't know that skimmers take a few days to break-in?

I've had the skimmer for about a yr now. i adjusted the flow so that the water level is at the point that the instructions say to be and will work fine one day then next it may overflow. now i can have no issues for weeks with it not overflowing and then bamm, i've seen posts on the net about the pump for this unit is junk and that is one fix along with taking the bubble trap off. all in all i haven't read anything good about the skimmer other than the lfs that i bought from said he sold tons of these units and had no issues.

Darn, at 180G, you are at the cutoff for an EV-180, which is much smaller than the 240. Sorry you have to get a new skimmer though. I know Current skimmers aren't too great, especially for tanks that large. I wanted the 240 also, but didn't have enough room in my wet/dry.
You can run it into a separate tank like you are thinking though. It will mean some replumbing and safety work to prevent the 10G sump from overflowing. You will have to T-off your current drain with a ball valve coming in to feed the 10G tank, then you will have to drill a wall of the 10G tank about 3" below the rim of that tank to exit the water back into your return sump. Something like that anyway.
