    baffles

Thats always a different approach, we have used them with great success...if you have the time and patience...

Overflow chamber should be 3 baffles minimum...the most you can squeeze depending on skimmer(water minimum) start with 9"x10"x9" baffles...
middle chamber depends on what your plans are...but third and final baffle should be 10" ..ALL depending on what your plans are...i.e. media reactors, fuge area, etc...lots of variables..

Layout looks good to me. That's the way I did mine. Assuming you're going to run a skimmer in the sump, obviously you want to look at the skimmer's footprint to allow enough room. I made my return chamber my smallest one. I wanted more room for a bigger fuge so that's why the return is smaller. As for silicone, I have always used GE silicone 1. You just want to make sure that whatever you use is 100% silicone and doesn't have any mold/mildew inhibitors. Steer clear of anything that says for bathroom/kitchen etc... Some even say aquarium safe, but cost a little more and come in smaller quantities. As long as it's 100% silicone you should be safe.

    Okay, 9x10 baffles are a little small, about 2 inches short. I've measured and i should get 11 3/4 x 9.

Alright thanks! i don't know the size of the skimmer ill be getting, but I'm sure it will be a reef octopus. I think they are greatly built and have good pumps for the money.

I just use live rock in my sump. I have a 30 also and divided it into 2 sections with the live rock building a wall. I have the skimmer on the return side and just a sock hanging setup on the feed. Theres a DSB and cheato etc on the other side. Been using it for sometime and all is well. Basic and cheap

If i was to try to make my own inlet out of glass, would it be best to use bio balls? or something else?
