I've been researching skimmers again lately.. I'm looking for an external skimmer that can handle the amount of feeding I'll be doing on my NPS tank. I will be feeding about 2-3 ozs of coral foods, some aminos, and some frozen every day. I plan to run Ecobak pellets in a SRO reactor to help with the job and am just trying to weigh my options.

I'm thinking I'll have the pellet reactor dump straight into the overflow and have the overflow directed straight into the external skimmer.

I need suggestions on skimmers.. the total water volume of the tank is inconsequential due to the amount of foods I'll be adding. I'm thinking I'll be looking for something rated in the 500gallon range. I'm open to any constructive criticism or suggestions!

You are actually almost stuck with a Beckett or a tower type to pull out that much.

Damn.. I know so little about those types of skimmers that it's embarrassing.

Yes. It was too large to fit in the sump of this build (really it just needs deeper water than I can provide) And I had the opportunity to get my money back out of it anyhow.

Well I can make a comparison: a needle wheel is like a 4 cylinder while a Beckett or tower is like a V-8 supercharged with a blower and nitrous oxide.

You go Dingo:) as a former Tower 1400 owner myself they are good.....but lets give some options: Here is one bad boy for around $ 1,750.00 that not only cleans your tank but will give you a massage too!lol

That actually brings about another issue.. I have had my internal skimmer overflow on numerous occasions... What are people doing to protect against an event like this on an external skimmer?
