    SWC Skimmers 8)

If I didn't have so many "used" older skimmers, I'd buy an SWC. Up to now, its always been ASM. They've had a good run. I may still buy an SWC for my 2-90g's though.

For HOB, Remora Pro seems a good choice.

If you decide to remove a few bioballs and to make room for in-sump skimmer, there are a few choices
    SWC
Bubble Magus NAC7 (same pump, similar body but cheaper than SWC)
Marineland marine pro (smaller footprint compared to other skimmers)
Octopus Extreme (More expensive but preferred by experts)

Just understand heat...running a submersible pump like a Mag external does nothing for removing heat. the pump is internally cooled by water. the only way to ditch heat is to run an external air cooled pump.

Having said that my Sicce pulls 21 watts and can handle a 180g tank. I need a 300w heater just to keep temps up when the lights are off, and I need another 250w heater in the Winter. So I do not need to get rid of heat. If I ran an external pump, I would have to throw anther heater in.

Just understand what you are doing with heat. You may need it, you may not.

Internals are cheaper and less complicated with more choices, but take up sump room. Your pick.

Great point Powerman. Never thought about it that way. I'm here in "Gods Country" where it was a scorching 72 degrees, 80 @ mid-day. ;D
I run MH's & have always assumed you'd need a chiller. I've been pretty interested though to see how some of these guys are cooling their tanks w/o a chiller. I think AZ, who lives in Phoenix sold his chiller & keeping his tank @ 78 steady degrees with fans.
Nonetheless, my next skimmer will be an SWC.

    (Aren't they giving 3reefer discounts?)

well i live in california where it never gets really hot or really cold. I just have a wet dry that only has room for a submersable pump at the end so my only option would be drilling a hole for a external pump and run it to an external protein skimmer than plumbing it back into the wet dry. The only way i could have a in sump skimmer would be if i took out the top and have a tube just running straight in with no drip plate (would this be a better idea just to turn it into a sump by removing the lid and drip plate or would the first option be better?)
