need refugium, see design

I have a 45g tank, right now all I have is 40# live rock 2.5 inches of live sand, 2 clown fish, 1 coral banded shrimp, 2 Mexican turbo snails, 5 astrea snails, 20 blue leg hermit crabs, and 1 emerald crab. I am running on a Sealife systems pro 75 wet/dry with in-sump skimmer. I want to start on corals and I don't believe I can do so on this wet/dry, I also want to keep a mandarin/goby.

please see the design I attached, I have a spare tank dimensions l: 24" w: 12" d: 12". I can use this. I also have a spare Jebo 150 skimmer that I can use. and a mag 5 return pump

any input/comments would be great

That sounds like a plan... your design is good. The only thing i would change is the skimmer... There not the best not to say anything else.... but what do i know im still running a prizm.

Nice diagram, plan. I'm still new to the idea of sump-fuge combined systems. The one that I have setup permits me the option of reducing the flow rate through the fuge portion of the sump. From what I have read about refugiums, a lower flow rate (more contact time with the macro algy) is beneficial for the nigitron removal.

What are you considering as a light system for the fuge? I have started by running a PC, 24watt, combination white/atinic, 24x7x365.....

Nice. It is very similar to mine except i made the return go directly to the fuge so that some of the water does not go through multiple times in the skimmer forcing the overflow water to hit the skimmer at a greater percentage.
For lighting you can go 24x7. That will keep the ph steady and can help slow down reproduction of algae in the fuge.
If your water gets too warm run it opposite of the tank so that is still keeps the ph steady.

 

with a 45 gal tank I'd stay close to just a 10 Gal fuge and I'd also locate it remotely and not in line water passing through a sump would be moving to fast to do any god the way a fuge works it like a salt marsh or mud flat in that the water passes through it really slow a 10 gal fuge you want to run about 10 GPH through it that will allow time for the solids to settle out and feed the plants now if you are using Mangroves red or white then faster water flows are needed and Beneficial.. if you get to fast of flows with a algae fuge or scrubber the plants will not get enough food. Thats why I always use a fuge about 10% of the tank total volume its serving then 10% of the fuges volume per hr through the fuge.
This method has never failed me or anyone Ii know of yet.. You can get them to large.. many have watched their algaes go asexual bleach out hite and release their toxins and and go to seed or die in attempt to save themselves from starvation.. and total death of the algae plants..
