I'm starting to plan a new reef tank set-up. I want to turn my 30g into the sump/refugium and want some advice on the set-up.

    90g display 48x18x24
    lights- Sunlight Supply 48" Tek T5 Fixture 6 x 54W sunliSunlight Supply 48" Tek Light T5 Fixture - 6-Bulb, 6 x 54W

    CPR c-siphon overflow Cs90 (600gph)
    Danner Mag-Drive 700 (475 gph @4')

    changing the 30g into a sump/refugium...
I have a aqua C remora skimmer already on the 30.Do I need to upgrade because of the increased volume or am I still skimming a smaller area?
Does my heater need to upgraded or same deal as the skimmer?

Still have lots of planning , but would appreciate some advice...thanks

Depends on the rating for you skimmer. Is it rated for 100+ gallons?

Same goes for your heater, how many watts is it?

I would go with a skimmer rated for atleast 175g and a 200w heater, but thats just me

if you are trying to use the aqua c remora on a tank that size, it isn't going to work. The skimmer can't keep up with that much volume. I would go with a skimmer rated for around 200 gallons.

Aqua C is only Rated for tanks up to 75 gallons. It will work but not up to par. I would recomend at least a 200 watt heater for that much water volume.

Tech lights are nice but if you havent already bought it I would get the 8 bulb version, with the 6 your only talking 3.6 watts per gallon which limits you to basically only softies as far as corals go, with a little bit more you could keep some LPS also.

OK, I wasn't sure on that. Iwas thinkin that the amount of water going past the skimmer in the sump would be increased, but the size of the chamber that it is in would be around 10-15g.

watts per gallon is irrelavent anymore when it comes to new technology. Tek Light systems with individual reflectors are much more potent than a standard pc fixture or standard t-5 fixture. those lights are going to be plenty to keep lps and softies and maybe some lower light sps such as monti cap. You absolutely did a good job in choosing those lights. With that being said tho, with the 8 bulb fixture you won't be limited as to the coral you can keep.

If you are still in the planning stage I would go with a drilled tank so that you wouldn't need the CPR siphon.
30G should be fine for a sump. You could add glass baffles or just that the return go into filter socks

Is it relatively safe to drill on my own or can I have a glass shop do it?
Should I have 2 out and 2 in?
