A male fighting fish is actually a peaceful fish to everyone EXCEPT other bettas. They are actually easily bullied by other fish eso fin nippers such as many barbs. Obviously only 1 male per tank, when it comes to females it all depends. If she is willing to breed the male will tolerate her and attempt to breed, but if she is not yet ready he will harass her and stress her to the point of death.

Thanks again everyone for the advice it has been very helpful.I think I'm going to try a Iwagumi+tetras setup which was suggested earlier.I am looking at tanks for this online and they come in 6mm ,10mm and 12mm glass thickness. What difference does that make and which should I pick? I reckon I need a tank(obviously) light ,heater ,filter and a CO2 system.Anything else? can anyone recommend particular plants too and what I'll need to plant them.

I had never heard of Iwagumi and looked it up. That look is very cool! Good luck on your set up!

I would use Dwarf Baby Tears (I know, it's a weird name  ) or Dwarf Hairgrass for the bottom of the tank. I believe they like nutrients in the water, so you might need to add fertilizers. They will also need sufficient lighting.

Or you could do a hardscape like these:

You can scroll though the pictures at the top right ;)

If you click on "aquascapes" on the top left, there are more different styles of aquascaping as well ;)

Ok I'm thinking,a 140L ADA tank,cabinet,heater,CO2,filter,aqua soil, glosso plants + stones.is there anything else I need? Will do a carpet of glosso and maybe I'll put bigger plants at the back for the background.finally making some headway ,this is a seriously addictive hobby ! So many so many different set ups I think this is the one I want lol
