i have a standard 55g with a 20g sump skimmer, fuge, etc... my lighting is a geismen retrofit that i built into the canopy. 4 x 54w. do yall think i could keep an ultra elegance coral on the bottom. i am wondering if my lighting would be enough for where i want to put it. the lights are about 6 inches from the surface of the water and on that side of the tank(thanks to my maroon clown) the sand is about 5-6 inches deep. the tank is almost one year old now. i am also concerned b/c i have been reading about their mortality rate in the hobby. any thoughts would be appreciated.

    thanks

Are the lights Ho or VHO? If yes, then you could try one. I just read up on that coral and the article said they are normally very hardy, however, in the last couple of years the aquarium mortality rate is high for no apparent reason. When you think about it, most SPS and LPS are iffy, the tougher leathers/soft coral are more of a sure bet for longevity.

the lights are ho 48" 54 watt. i was just wondering if they had any elegance experts. these corals are just plain goregeous. i have always wanted one and i can get a medium size very healthy with purple all over it for about $60.00. i know this is a pretty good deal. just a little weary of them. some body else please give some words of wisdom.

Make sure that when you get it to not touch the flesh and that it is fully retracted before removing it. If you are picking it up in person make sure that it is fully retracted before being removed and again that it is not touched.

do you have any additonal advice on this coral. maybe some acclimation tips. i do have a partially shaded area of the tank picked out for it, and that area is also low flow where a little more nutrients like to collect. i say this because when i do get a little alage on the sand this is where i see it the most. again anymore info you can think of would be appreciated.

I think moderate flow is better, but that is relative. When placing the coral place it straight up and down not on any side. It most likelt will have a point. Bury the point in the sand.
